Retinol is a powerful ingredient, and its results are unlike any other ingredient currently on the market. Retinol is scientifically proven to help boost collagen production and encourage healthy cell turnover to minimise the appearance of common visible changes in skin, such as uneven skin tone, dullness, lack of firmness and fine lines.

In some cases, depending on factors like usage frequency, concentration, and formula composition, potential side effects like irritation have been known to occur.

The good news? There are different types of retinoids, and all formulas are not created equal. Our Retinol is based on a nano-delivery system incorporated in small capsules made from a natural sugar complex. This system delivers Retinol gradually to achieve a sustained, long-lasting release of the ingredient, which prevents any sort of irritation to your skin. Even people with sensitive skin and/or acne can use our product.

Our 0.5% Retinol is safely incorporated in a micro-encapsulated time-release system so you can enjoy all the benefits without any irritation or side effects. And because our formula contains 55% Nordic Birch Sap, instead of water, our Retinol is delivered in a nourishing carrier that helps optimise ingredient performance—without any fillers like water that do not provide any skin benefit.

Nordic Birch Sap on its own is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes that help to strengthen your skin and repair your skin barrier. Nordic Birch Sap is therefore the optimal carrier for strong actives like Retinol and can help increase the benefits while keeping your skin safe, strong and protected from any potential side effects.

The Retinol we use in BirchTech HybridTM works well on all skin types. The formula contains 0.5% Retinol, which can help unclog pores and reduce acne outbreaks by preventing dead cells from clogging pores. Keeping dead skin cells on the move will also help with keeping pores clear & open so other potential topical acne treatments can penetrate more effectively. Vitamin C and the natural extracts in the formula will also fight acne-induced inflammation.

It’s a common myth that Retinol cannot be used together with Vitamin C. If the product is formulated properly, Vitamin C and Retinol can further enhance each other’s benefits. Since our Retinol is protected in microcapsules it won’t interfere with Vitamin C, and both actives remain intact until they penetrate the skin surface. On a side note, skin studies have shown that when Vitamin A (retinol), C and E are formulated together they have very powerful antioxidant effects, up to four times more compared to when used on their own. We have chosen percentages of each vitamin wisely to maximise the effects while preventing potential skin irritation and side effects.

We recommend starting using a Retinol product at age 25, since your body will then produce around 1% less collagen per year. However, around the age of 50, collagen levels drop significantly and visible aging accelerates. Therefor a Retinol product is recommended for all women aged 25 and above.

We agree that skincare can be confusing and overwhelming, but it does not have to be. We designed BirchTech HybridTM with that in mind and incorporated all the necessary ingredients to cover your skin’s nighttime needs. All you need to do is cleanse, then apply 1-2 pumps of BirchTech HybridTM before bedtime. Unlike other brands, we do not suggest long, complicated routines. Skincare should be easy and should not require complicated layering of different actives & acids. When we took the unnecessary water out of the formula, it gave us the opportunity to create a real powerhouse that can target many different skin issues at the same time.

Most skincare products are diluted with 70-80% water (you can easily check your own products if you see the ingredient “aqua” at the top of the ingredient list). Water might be needed to create an emulsion (cream), but it does not actually do anything positive for your skin and is a cheap filler ingredient. Instead of water, BirchTech HybridTM is uniquely made from a base of 55% Nordic Birch Sap. This means:

Retinol is best when applied at night, as it is a potent and effective overnight rejuvenating treatment. We recommend nighttime use only, as the ingredient is known to be less effective with sun exposure.
