How to Prime Mature Skin Before Makeup (And Why Your Current Primer Might Be Making Things Worse)
If you've ever watched your foundation settle into fine lines by midday, or seen your concealer cling to dry patches no matter what you do — you're not imagining it. Mature skin simply behaves differently, and most makeup products weren't designed with that in mind.
Here's the thing nobody tells you: your primer might actually be the problem.
Why Most Primers Don't Work for Mature Skin
The majority of primers on the market are loaded with silicones — dimethicone being the most common. For younger skin, silicones create a smooth, blurred surface.
But for mature skin they can be drying, unbreathable, and leave skin looking flat and matte — which is one of the most aging things you can do to your complexion.
Add in the synthetic fillers and pore-clogging ingredients found in most formulas, and you've got a recipe for makeup that looks great for an hour and tired by noon.
Mature skin needs hydration, not a plastic coating.

How to Actually Prime Mature Skin — 5 Steps
1. Finish your skincare routine first. Apply your usual skincare — cleanser, serum, moisturizer — and let it absorb fully. Wild Blue goes on as the very last step before makeup, sealing in all that moisture underneath and creating the perfect hydrated base for your foundation.
2. Skip the silicone primer — use a facial oil instead This is the game changer. A lightweight facial oil like Wild Blue — made from concentrated organic wild blueberries — works as a clean, natural primer that actually nourishes skin rather than sitting on top of it. Rich in antioxidants and omega fatty acids, it hydrates, plumps and smooths in seconds, creating the perfect base for foundation.
3. Use just 2 drops — less is more Dispense two drops onto the back of your hand, then press — don't rub — into skin. Focus on the areas where makeup tends to settle: around the mouth, eyes and any dry patches. You can apply all over if you prefer.
4. Let it absorb for 60 seconds before applying foundation This is where most people rush. Give the oil a moment to sink in fully, then apply your foundation as normal. You'll immediately notice it glides on more evenly and looks more radiant throughout the day.
5. If you prefer less glow — finish with a light dusting of powder Facial oils can leave a natural luminosity which most people love. But if you prefer a more balanced or matte finish on certain areas — like the T-zone — simply dust a tiny amount of lightweight powder just where you need it. Keep it minimal.
+ Bonus tip: Exfoliate 1–2 times a week: This isn't a daily step, but it makes everything else work better. As skin matures it sheds dead cells more slowly, which means they build up on the surface — and foundation clings to them, settles into them, and looks uneven because of them. A gentle exfoliant once or twice a week clears that layer away so your skin is smooth and fresh. You'll notice your Wild Blue absorbs better, your foundation sits more evenly and your skin looks cleaner overall. Keep it gentle — mature skin doesn't need anything harsh.
